ABOUT ANGLIA AND MIDLAND SPORTS SURFACES
Anglia and Midland Sports Ltd is a specialist constructor of premium quality tennis courts and multi-use sports surfaces. The company is owned and run by Rory Shepherd, a second generation tennis court builder.
Rory had been brought up visiting and working on tennis courts , He obtained a national diploma in construction before joining En Tout Cas, the largest sports surfacing company in the world at that time, as a contracts manager in 1973. He left in 1979, starting Anglia and Midland, He has held a Licentiate of the I.O.G. for a number of years. Rory specialises in designing attractive tennis courts, and landscaping around courts.
Neil Shepherd B.Sc., C.Eng., M.I.E.E., who runs the office, spent ten years as a professional electronics design engineer with GEC before joining Anglia & Midland in 1985. Neil's computing skills have been utilised to provide our AMlight floodlighting design capability, with systems installed on over 200 courts. His major responsibilities lie in general office administration, preparing quotations, ordering materials, and dealing with supplier and customer accounts.
Celia Shepherd manages our maintenance division from our Market Harborough office ( Tel: 01536 772005 ) She looks after the colour-spraying of new courts, and cleaning and repainting of older courts.
To date we have surfaced about 4,000 courts. There are many private courts from the Humber to the Thames, and we would be pleased to arrange for you to play on one of these. We are always happy to come out and meet to discuss and design a court to your requirements.
We operate from a purpose built office, as our address suggests, but that doesn't mean we switch off to tennis courts at five-o-clock. Out of office hours, the phone is normally diverted to a home number. We are happy to take your calls there in the evenings and at weekends, just ring our normal office number.

ABOUT YOUR COURT
SOME FACTORS TO CONSIDER |
|
BUYING A TENNIS COURT
With our wide range of court surfaces the only way you can be sure of getting the court which suits you is to try one. Talk to the owner about us --- are we neat, efficient, fair. Listed later in the website are a few clubs we have built courts for. In addition there are many private courts from the Humber to the Thames, and we would be pleased to arrange for you to play on one of these. We are always happy to come out and meet you to discuss the surfaces available. We will then submit our quotation and detailed specification to your requirements.

SITTING YOUR TENNIS COURT
An area at least 108'x54' must be found. Generally we like to construct courts 1 14'x56' which is the LTA recommended size for clubs. For multiple courts, ideally you should add 48' to the width for each additional court. In preference, the court should be orientated with the long dimension North-South so that the sun does not set directly into a players eyes. Where possible, a substantially level site should be selected to minimise machinery costs when leveling the site. Where the original ground level slopes significantly, extra space is required to form banks if expensive retaining walls are to be avoided. Ease of access is also a significant factor in pricing---about 200 tonnes of materials go into a new court so its obviously cheaper if lorries can tip directly on site.

TENNIS COURT SURFACES
Anglia and Midland construct five tennis court surfaces--Texplay 2, Tennitex and its Ultragrip variant, Tenniturf, and a range of Sealed surfaces, which are described in detail in the accompanying leaflets. All the courts are "All year round," which can be used after rain or frost. They are not "all weather"--you can't see the lines under an inch of snow!

AMlight FlOODLIGHTING
To make full use of the all year round use capability of Anglia & Midland courts we can offer our own AMlight (Anglia & Midland light) floodlighting systems. These range from four column systems with halogen lights for domestic installations, to eight columns on a single court for tournament play, and extended systems for multiple courts and multisport areas. Whatever your requirement, there is an AMlight system or design capability to meet it.

ALL OUR WORK IS GUARANTEED FOR THREE YEARS
We give a full three year guarantee on materials and workmanship. The only exclusions are normal wear, maintenance according to our guides, and bulbs in our floodlighting systems. After the three year period, we still want to know about any problems, and view these sympathetically.
